Activation

Robo-FTP and Robo-FTP Server run in a fully-functional evaluation mode for 30 days when installed on a system for the first time. Once that evaluation license expires, the software must be activated. Activation is a simple process which you should be able to complete without assistance from Technical Support.

Read the Help File First

The Help file that was installed with the software provides detailed instructions for activating the software. It covers the most common cases you are likely to encounter:

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I have been using Robo-FTP in evaluation mode. I still need more time to complete my evaluation, but my evaluation license has expired. Can I get an extension?
A: Yes, we can provide an extension. Go to the License section of the Configurator (for Robo-FTP) or Server Console (for Robo-FTP Server) and click the button to request an evaluation extension.

Q: I have an older version of Robo-FTP on my machine and want to install and activate a major update (going from 3.8 to 3.9, as opposed to a minor release going from 3.9.8 to 3.9.9, for example). How do I do this?
A: Follow the instructions in the migration guide, available as a PDF on the Download page of Robo-FTP.com (http://www.robo-ftp.com/download). Per those instructions, you should remove activation from the Help menu in the older version of Robo-FTP. You should then be able to activate the new version.

Q: I need to move the software to a new machine, but I need to keep it running on the old machine for a little while so I can fully test the new system. Is this allowed?
A: A Robo-FTP license may only be activated on one machine at a time. When you install the software on the new machine, it will run in fully-functional evaluation mode for 30 days. This should give sufficient time to test the new system before you have to transfer the license from the old machine to the new machine. When you are ready to transfer the license, follow the instructions from the help file: Transferring a License.

Q: I have the software installed and activated on one machine. I need to move the software to a new machine. How do I do this?
A: A Robo-FTP license may only be activated on one machine at a time. When you install the software on the new machine, it will run in fully-functional evaluation mode for 30 days. This should give sufficient time to test the new system before you have to transfer the license from the old machine to the new machine. When you are ready to transfer the license, follow the instructions from the help file: Transferring a License. If the old machine is no longer accessible, submit your activation request on the new machine as if this were a new license. The software will return an error advising that your license has already been activated and provide a form requesting more information. Complete and submit this form.

Q: I just submitted a manual activation request. When should I expect a response?
A: Activation requests are answered in the order they are received. In most cases, you will receive a response within an hour or so, although it should never take longer than one business day.

Q: Automatic activation does not work for me (due to firewall, proxy server, etc.). Is there another option for submitting a manual activation request besides fax or email?
A: Yes. If you are able to access the Internet from a web browser, you can submit an activation request via our web site using this form: Activation Form.

Q: My hard drive crashed on my old computer. I now have a new computer. How do I activate the software on my new machine?
A: Submit your activation request as if this were a new license. The software will return an error advising that your license has already been activated and provide a form requesting more information. Complete and submit this form.

Q: I want to install and activate the software on a new computer. The old computer where the software was previously activated is no longer accessible. How do I activate the software on my new machine?
A: Submit your activation request as if this were a new license. The software will return an error advising that your license has already been activated and provide a form requesting more information. Complete and submit this form.

Q: Robo-FTP appears to have lost its activation for no reason.
A: The most common cause for Robo-FTP to lose its activation is registry corruption due to hardware failure or running software utilities that perform extensive hard disk reorganization (Defrag, for example, has been known to cause this type of registry corruption). Submit your activation request as if this were a new license. The software will return an error advising that your license has already been activated and provide a form requesting more information. Complete and submit this form.

Q: I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it on the same computer. When I launch the software it indicates that it is no longer activated. What do I do?
A: Submit your activation request as if this were a new license. The software will return an error advising that your license has already been activated and provide a form requesting more information. Complete and submit this form.

Q: I have an older license for which support has expired. I want to install the software on a new machine, but I no longer have the download and/or CD for the version of the software I am registered to use. If I attempt to activate the current version of the software downloaded from Robo-FTP.com, I get an error advising that I cannot activate this version of the software. What do I do?
A: We do not distribute older versions of the software. If you are able to locate the installer for the version of the software you are registered to use, then you should be able to install and activate it. Your other option is to purchase an upgrade to the current version of the software (recommended, as there are frequent releases with important security patches, bug fixes, performance improvements, and new features). Please contact Robo-FTP Sales at 512-345-2211, option 1 or by using this form Contact Us.
